Traditional Works in Cairo { 22 images } Created 9 Jul 2008

This series of portraits is a testament to those who continue to make their living by using time-honored techniques, passed down through the ages, from generation to generation.
Many of these traditional vocations are in danger of being lost as time marches on.

Ahmed, 63 years old, well known in his neighbourhood as " Goal" because of his qualities as goalkeeper, does this unique ironing in his stand in the outskirts of Cairo.
For centuries, he and his family, have preserved this ancient way of ironing, using their hands and legs. To vaporize the clothes, Ahmed takes a mouthful of water and then spits it on to the clothes.
